One of the oldest debates in the world has to do with management vs. leadership. There seems to be a prevailing belief they are archenemies like the Joker and Batman. In truth, management and leadership are two sides of the same coin. Different in essence, yet there are some commonalities. Without both, sustained success is impossible.

I met the UPS man at the door today; he was delivering our turkey for Thanksgiving. It’s amazing, you can order anything over the Internet these days. Smoked in Texas, delivered to Florida, it will be the centerpiece of a great meal. We will be thankful for the meal, our friends and family. It is, after all, Thanksgiving.

One Word… Team
This is the next post in a series on single words with big implications for us as leaders. Previous posts have focused on Vision, Data, Diversity and more. Today’s word: Team. Obviously, I have a strong bias on this one since I wrote a book entitled, The Secret of Teams and the companion Field Guide.
The career ladder our parents knew has been replaced with a climbing wall. That’s the conclusion my friend Bev Kaye has reached. What a powerful metaphor! With this picture in mind, let’s think about this week’s question: I’ve been demoted, what do I do now?
